Writing Them on the Doorposts: Scripture in Our Home, Part 4

These ideas for displaying Scripture in our home are fairly easy and simple. I don’t consider myself a super-decorator and I’m pretty frugal (read: stingy) with our money so I try to find alternatives to some of the beautiful things I see on Etsy or in magazines.

Last week, I found a fantastic Scripture print on Etsy. It’s been sold so there’s no longer a picture of the original but I decided to recreate it for my home. After a few (okay, more like many) minutes on Microsoft Publisher, I came up with this, which I put in a frame on our built-in bookcase.

It would have looked really nice in a white frame but alas, we live 30 miles from the nearest Target so I haven’t had the chance to get one yet.

Whatever it looks like, it’s right at the top of our stairs so it’s an encouragement to me to read this verse many times a day!

On Friday, I’m going to share a convenient place you can put Scripture so you can read it to your baby!

Writing Them on the Doorposts: Scripture in our Home Part 1

“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9

In this passage of the Old Testament we are exhorted to write the Word of God on our hearts!  Knowing and internalizing Scripture is so beneficial to us as parents and is most especially important for our children!

Recently, the writers of the Doorposts blog challenged us to display Scripture in our home in a variety of creative ways.

In this series, I’m going to share some photos and a few words about the ways we give Scripture a prominent place in our house. I’d love for you to share what you do as well!

One of the ways I like to keep Scripture in view at all times is to put up decorative items that have some of my favorite verses written on them. This framed stitching in our living room has the words, “I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. Be joyful always; pray continually, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17”.

I love this beautiful print I found on Etsy, it would look so cute on a fireplace mantel or hung in our guest room!

  1. Thanks for your comments, ladies! Cindy, I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a real decorator (ha ha!) but I feel like the Lord is encouraging me to have Scripture right in front of me, for my own benefit and as a testimony to others who come to our house. Praise the Lord for your desire to do that too!

  2. So excited about this series. I honestly am not much of a decorator and don’t have much of anything displayed in my home other than a few family photos. I guess I’ve displayed most of my Scripture on my blog as a journal of sorts instead. But I agree with Chelsey, I want to display more Scripture in my home so people have no doubt who I live for…and so I can keep His word on mine and my family’s hearts!

  3. Love this. I was convicted a few years ago to hang more Scripture on our walls. When people walk in to my home, I want them to have no doubt about who I live my life for!
