We’ve been enjoying our journey through Truth in the Tinsel so far! Here we are on day six {for us, anyway!}. What I love about this Advent devotional is that you can do each day’s craft or just do a certain group of crafts. This year, we’re focusing on the characters of the Christmas story.
Today’s characters are Mary and Elizabeth. We read the account from Luke 1 about Mary visiting her cousin and the baby in Elizabeth’s womb “leaping for joy” at the sound of Mary’s voice. What an exciting time that must have been for those two women, many years apart in age, getting to talk about having their first baby!
Using the cute paper doll templates included with this eBook, we printed them out on cardstock and painted them. Since we did this during the school day for my oldest, just the two younger were able to join in today. We didn’t have pop dots, which are called for to make their stomachs “pop”, so we used mounting putty, which gave the same 3D effect (see below).
As you can see, Little J is working hard on his painting. I gave him a paintbrush and a bit of water in a cup with a drop of food coloring in it. Of course he spilled it, but he had fun :)
The cousins, completed, with Mary rockin’ the purple hair. Since L’s favorite color is purple, why wouldn’t Jesus’ mom have the same color hair? ;)
We talked about how excited I was when I knew I was going to have a baby and I allowed L to look at some photos of me pregnant {I don’t take many because I don’t like how I look during pregnancy!}.
The craft up next is day nine’s Joseph, which I’ll share on Monday!
ALSO, I’m looking forward to two other wonderful things happening at the blog on Monday, December 10!
- I’ll be sharing some exciting details about my first eBook, God’s Word in My Heart: A Scripture Learning Guide with Memory Verses!
- I’ll be hosting a giveaway of Let It Go, a new book by Karen Ehman of Proverbs 31 Ministries, along with sharing my own testimony a time in my life when I struggled to stop controlling and start trusting the Lord. I pray that this would encourage you and minister to you as well.
