In looking at our verses so far this week in 1 John, chapter 2, I liked the phrase in verse 14 that said, “I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the evil one.”
One commentary I read pointed out that the young men spoken of here are strong BECAUSE the word abides in them. Left to our own sinful nature, we are not strong or able to combat evil, but because God “makes His home” (abides) in us, we can fight the good fight of faith. Praise God that he doesn’t leave us to fight battles on our own!

  1. you nailed it! “Praise God that he doesn’t leave us to fight battles on our own!”

Jehovah Nissi – He is our banner, He goes out BEFORE us !!

  2. Amen! If left to fight alone, I would be lost! Our pastor is preaching a series on the armor of God right now, taking us piece by piece through Ephesians 6:10-17. I am trying to be more conscious of God’s provision to live victoriously!

  3. I loved the commentaries that we are listening to this week and how John Piper explained that regardless of where you are in your walk….immature to mature, God loves you and accepts you because of his son! Thank you for this today!
