“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31 NKJV
Do you ever feel unimportant? Invisible? As though God has forgotten you? Beyond your feelings is the truth that you are much more important to God than anything else in creation.
Two sparrows being sold for a copper coin in biblical times was equivalent to the worth of a penny in today’s culture, almost nothing! And yet God is aware of every time a bird dies. If such a small, unnoticeable thing cannot escape God’s sight, so too are we always in His thoughts and His heart!
God does not count the hairs on our heads as we would count them. He simply knows how many we have without counting. He knows the trials we go through each day as we teach, love, and entertain our children. He sustains us through the balancing act of working, mothering and being a wife. Through the Word, God gives us His companionship when we feel alone and overwhelmed.
“Do not fear,” Jesus says. “You are more valuable than many sparrows.”
“Lord Jesus, please be with me when I am discouraged, frustrated and simply sad. Comfort me with Your comfort and help me to see that through You, I am valuable and precious. Sustain me, strengthen me and show me Your heart. Amen.”
