One of the things I’ve identified over the years from many of my readers and mom friends is that many of you struggle with using your time well and feeling like you’ve used it for what matters.
I can totally understand this! It’s easy to get distracted because there are a lot of things clamoring for our attention!
Emails, notifications on our phones, sibling fights to break up, meals to prepare, houses to clean, kids to tuck into bed, a marriage to nurture, friends to visit with, sports and co-ops–can I get a witness??
These activities aren’t bad in and of themselves….but if we don’t have a way to get our jumbled thoughts in order or be prepared for all that’s on our plate, we just end up feeling completely overwhelmed and disappointed in our day (or ourselves!).
I really don’t want us to feel this way next year. And I think there is a very simple step we can take to help use our time for what matters so that we can be satisfied and relaxed when we go to bed at night, knowing we’re ready to tackle the next day!
Did you know that we are 10x more productive when we simply take the time to write things down?
Writing clears our mental clutter, helps us prioritize and keeps us from getting so distracted (because when we have a brain freeze, our schedule/to-do list is right in front of us!).
Physically writing something down is still considered the best way to accomplish goals and use our time well.
I know a lot of us love organizing apps, and there is definitely a place for those! Yet the best way to organize our thoughts and plans and actually carry them out is still by using a paper planner.
There are a lot of choices for planners out there. But the personal planner I use every single year is The Homemaker’s Friend Daily Planner!
It’s been around since 2010, purchased by thousands of women, and the creator, Sue Hooley, has tweaked it over the years to make it the best it can be for busy women.
This spiral-bound planner has a laminated cover and seven tabbed dividers, labeled: Yearly Calendar, Monthly Calendar, Weekly Planning, Tasks Lists, Projects and Events, Information, and Shopping Lists. In addition, the size of this women’s daily planner fits easily in your purse or diaper bag, so you never have to be without it!
I wanted to show you an inside look at the 2019 Homemaker’s Friend Daily Planner. Watch my video to see the details of the planner so you can decide if it’s right for your needs! (I haven’t written in it yet since it’s for next year, but I go through the pages so you can see the layout and explain how I use it).
Look inside the planner by clicking HERE! (Sorry if my video is a bit shaky at times, I need a tripod for my iPhone camera I think!)

This isn’t just a planner for stay-at-home-moms (sometimes the word “homemaker” can have that association). Really, a homemaker is any woman who is taking care of and managing a household–so this planner is great for ALL women!
I still do use Google Calendar to sync my schedule with my husband’s, but I truly find the best success when I write everything down in my planner!
I really do love the Homemaker’s Friend Daily Planner (pictured above with my favorite journaling Bible and coffee cup!)- maybe you’ll find that it’s the best planner for you in the new year too! :)
