Lately I’ve been all out of ideas for vegetable side dishes. I tend to steam the same vegetables over and over again and I can tell my family is getting tired of it! I looked through the “bookmarked” websites on my computer and rediscovered Fruits & Veggies More Matters. This helpful site is packed with great ideas on how to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet as well as lists of seasonal produce to help you plan your menu. One particular feature I like is “Fruit & Vegetable Storage 101”, because as I began picking fresh berries and growing a garden last year, I needed some advice on how to keep my food properly stored.
Some other features of the website include “Cooking with Your Kids”, “Fruit & Vegetable Nutrition” and a video center with some excellent how-to videos. I’ve found tons of helpful information all in one place, plus the site is easy to navigate.
On a related note, I am working hard this year at decreasing the sugary treats served during snack time at our house and increasing the variety of fruit and healthier food choices that my kids still enjoy. If you are looking for some new snack ideas for your little ones, you can check out my article for some Healthy and Easy Snacks for Kids at The Untrained Housewife. This is by no means intended to be an exhaustive list, so I would welcome your ideas for healthy treats, either here or on The Untrained Housewife forums. Here’s to a healthier diet this year–for everyone!
