Summertime is here, hooray!! We’re so thankful for three months of lazy afternoons at the pool, late night bonfires, extra time with friends and family and a few little vacations along the way.

book of proverbs bible reading plan for kids

After the school year finished up, I found myself looking for a Bible reading plan for my children that we could go through in less than two months time. I wanted a book of the Bible that was plain enough for kids to understand and also imparted spiritual truths that even the three year old would be able to internalize.

I couldn’t really find what I was looking for online, so I decided to create my own reading plan! The book of Proverbs immediately came to mind. It’s pointed and practical chapters are divided into short sections (making certain proverbs easier to memorize) but they can also be read together in themes.

Many phrases in the Proverbs are repeated throughout the book (though sometimes they are worded just slightly differently), which also lends itself to remembering the verses.

And that’s one of the main reasons we do devotions with our kids: so that they can understand and apply Scripture to their lives and so that it can be stored away for times when the Holy Spirit needs to prompt us with truths of the Word.

Would you like to read through Proverbs with your family? I’m thrilled to bring you this printable Summer 6 Week Bible Reading Plan for Kids – The Book of Proverbs!

Proverbs 6 week bible reading plan for kids

Book of Proverbs Bible Reading Plan for Kids

This printable guides you very simply through the entire book of Proverbs in 42 days (6 weeks). Some of the chapters are longer than others, so I tried to split them up fairly. As you read, try to also spend a couple of minutes talking about a key verse from the day’s passage, asking your kids these two questions:

  1. What does this verse tell me about God?
  2. How does this verse apply to my life?

Before you jump into this reading plan, do take note: Some of the verses in the Proverbs deal with some sensitive material, especially the chapters on the adulteress, personified. I made notes on the Bible reading plan about which verses I omitted and why; giving you the option to read them with your family if you feel your children are mature enough to handle that kind of imagery.

More Resources for Summer Family Devotions

Supplement your Bible reading time with a deeper 30 day devotional, The Character of God, and a daily Bible journaling notebook for your kids!

What we’re doing this summer is reading our Proverbs passage from the reading plan in the morning and then throughout the summer going through this 30-day study on The Character of God and memorizing these Fruit of the Spirit verses using the verse cards I’ve pictured below.

I’m spreading the study throughout the summer because some days we will be on vacation or really busy in the evenings so it will probably last us the whole three months!

I hope these ideas are a blessing to your family! Enjoy your summer!
