Recently I got to thinking about all the artificial “stuff” that’s in my favorite packaged hot cocoa mix {hydrogenated oils, corn syrup and whatnot} and figured there’s a better way to enjoy this cozy treat. Enter my take on this simple recipe with only three ingredients. I’m sold!

Homemade Hot Cocoa {or Hot Chocolate}

Makes 5 3/4 cups mix or 92 eight-ounce servings

3 1/2 cups white or turbinado sugar
2 1/2 cups 100% cocoa
1 Tbsp. table salt

Gently stir ingredients until combined. Store in an airtight container or…

…make it into Christmas gifts! I divided the mix into four clear bags and put them in little buckets that I found in the Dollar Spot at Target. Then I tied some ribbons (also a Dollar Spot find) around the handle just to give them a little color and stuck some peppermints and Andes mints on top. On regular address labels I printed these instructions:

Homemade Hot Cocoa

Microwave one cup of whole milk just until hot.
Add two tablespoons cocoa mix and stir.
Top with mints or marshmallows. Enjoy!

*You can reduce the amount of salt if it’s too much for your tastes or play around with the ratio of sugar to cocoa to your liking.
