I was recently contacted about being a Netflix Stream Team blogger. Our family had used Netflix in the past but were disappointed when they discontinued a lot of their kids’ shows, so we unsubscribed. I was offered a year’s subscription to Netflix and the opportunity to rediscover their children’s programming, using their movies and TV shows to correspond to crafts and recipes we create as part of our family time.

For the next 9 months, you’ll read about some of these shows, activities we do that relate to them and a year-end review of Netflix once I’ve seen what they have to offer now! Hopefully this will be helpful to you in deciding whether to use Netflix in your home.

This month, Netflix had some suggestions for Christmas movies that you can watch with your kids! You can watch Netflix on the go, anywhere you have access to WiFi with a tablet or other device or wireless internet on your phone.

There are Christmas titles starring Mickey Mouse, Thomas the Tank Engine, the Polar Express, and Charlie Brown among others! We chose to watch Veggie Tales: St. Nicholas, A Story of Joyful Giving. They also have It’s a Meaningful Life, another Veggie Tales movie with a Christmas theme.

The craft idea provided for this month was a Traveling Lego Box! Knowing how my kids love Legos, and the fact that we’re going to be taking a 12 hour car trip right after Christmas, I easily persuaded the 5 and 7 year old to help with this project.

Our box was purchased from Hobby Lobby. We painted it with washable tempera paint. That probably wasn’t the best choice but it was what we had on hand. Acrylic would likely work better.

The kids couldn’t choose what color the box should be, so we did yellow on the inside and blue on the outside.

We bought our $4.99 Lego base plate from Amazon and cut it down to size with a large scissors. We lined both the bottom and the top of the box because we didn’t want to waste any of the base plate!

Now, with the addition of some Lego sets, we will be ready to take this on the road with us this year, along with our iPad so we can watch some Netflix on the go if we have a snowed-in day at Grandpa & Grandma’s!
