I’ve got to admit, I love flax. It has great nutritional benefits and really does taste good! We like to add it to smoothies, our cereal and baked goods. One of my favorite ways to get flax into my diet is by making calzone dough in my bread machine. I thought I’d share the recipe with you!

Bread Machine Calzone Dough

You’ll Need:
1 cup plus 2 Tbsp milk
1 cup white bread flour
1 1/2 cups hard whole white wheat flour
1/2 cup ground flax
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter, cut into 4 pieces
2 tsp. active dry yeast

Directions:
Set your bread machine to the dough setting. Add ingredients according to manufacturer’s directions. After it’s done, remove the dough and roll into a 12 inch (or your preferred size) circle and place on greased baking sheet or on a Pampered Chef stone. I tried to roll out the dough as much as possible while still allowing it to be folded over, otherwise it took too long to bake with the fillings inside.

Making this dough was a great opportunity to get my daughter involved in the kitchen, from measuring the ingredients to rolling out the dough.

Fill as desired. Bake at  425 F for 15-20 minutes. You can try my Hot Ham and Cheese Calzone recipe if you’d like. Yum!
