Autumn is my FAVORITE season! But only since becoming an adult. As I kid, I used to love winter and freezing temps because it means snowmobiling and building snow forts (What can I say? I’m from North Dakota!) Now I’m happy to make fall last as long as possible and enjoy it as much as possible, decorating with warm colors, eating comfort foods and staying cozy in my house while drinking salted caramel flavored coffee and snuggling up to read books on the couch with my kids!
One of the best ways to bring autumn into our homes is to make our houses smell like the many things that define this season! When I can’t open the windows as much anymore, I need a way to get rid of some of the not-so-pleasant scents that can permeate every corner. We LOVE using essential oils for this purpose!
I wanted to share five essential oil diffuser recipes that can make your home smell like fall! These are for a regular sized diffuser. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Safety note: All the recipes below are considered appropriate to diffuse around children two years and older. Generally speaking, it’s best not to diffuse essential oils around babies that are younger than six months old. I will also share a recipe that is okay for kids 6-24 months!
5 Essential Oil Blends That Make Your Home Smell Like Fall
Ginger combined with cinnamon and nutmeg just make me want to bake cookies (uh-oh!)
3 drops Ginger Root
1 drop Cinnamon Leaf (do not use Cinnamon Bark around young children)
1-2 drops Nutmeg
This is my favorite blend!! Love the scents of citrus and spice!
4 drops Orange or Tangerine
3 drops Lemon
1-2 drops Clove (start with one drop, this is a strong oil!)
Cozy Chai (recipe idea from Mommypotamus)
3 drops Cardamom (omit for kids under 6)
1 drop Cinnamon Leaf
1 drop Ginger Root
1 drop Vanilla
*If omitting cardamom, you can substitute 2 drops clove and 1 extra drop vanilla
Autumn Morning Walk
This smells nicely of a forest in the fall! Imagine the leaves crunching under your feet :)
3 drops Frankincense
2 drops Pine
1 drop Cedarwood
3 drops Orange
SAFE for children ages 6-24 months and up, nice for relaxing
4-5 drops Blend of Sandalwood
4-5 drops Rose
3-4 drops Roman or German Chamomile
Our favorite essential oils company, Rocky Mountain Oils, is having a sale on some of their popular blends, including Peppermint Mocha and Pumpkin Spice Latte! Just in case you’d rather not mix up the blends yourself :) There are several single blends on sale for 20% off as well.
Head over to their website to grab your choice of oils (free shipping too!) and get your home smelling like fall right away–before winter sneaks up on us all! :)
