Our goal to control the media time in our house is in working well and I must admit it is easier to follow through with these boundaries because it’s getting nicer outside!

We still make time for a limited amount of TV each day and a movie every once in a while on family movie night, so we’ve been enjoying some classic movies and shows on Netflix

At the end of this post, I also have a 3 month subscription to Netflix to give away to one of my readers so you can try out their programming for yourself!

In celebration of some fond memories I have from my childhood, watching movies curled up on the couch on a rainy night, here are 5 classic kids’ movies I loved {that my young ones are loving too} that you can find on Netflix Instant Streaming:

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

1. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

This movie was introduced to me when I was four years old. My parents had taped {yes, with a VCR} this classic Pooh story when it was on TV one night {remember the ABC Sunday Night Movies?}. The Heffalumps and Woozles might make some kids a bit nervous, so just watch it according to your child’s level of comfort :)

2. Robin Hood

My kids laugh and laugh and laugh at the part of Robin Hood when he is being chased by soldiers at the archery tournament and Lady Cluck runs down the big rhinoceroses while holding a football in her arm. My 3 year old also randomly comes up to me and says, “When Prince John is sad he sucks his thumb like this {proceeds to suck his thumb} and says, Mommy and cries.” I love that we can have these funny memories of the same movie together :)

The Aristocats

3. The Aristocats

When my two younger brothers and I were little, we used to pretend we were Marie, Berlioz and Toulouse. We loved the adventure and music in this movie and still to this day, The Aristocats is one movie I’ll watch in its entirety {while still enjoying myself} with my kids.

The Rescuers Down Under

4. The Rescuers Down Under

I have to say that my kids haven’t watched this movie yet, but it’s up next on our list. The Rescuers in the Australian Outback, complete with “Down Under” accents and a hilarious albatross together at last? Hopefully it’s as funny as I remember it to be ;) The part where the boy is kidnapped might be a little scary for some, so I probably would reserve this movie for my almost 6 year old and 8 year old.

The Fox and the Hound

5. The Fox and the Hound

This post is not meant to be an advertisement for Disney, but we really do just like old Walt Disney Classics! The Fox and the Hound is good for kids ages 5 and up, in my opinion and is a sweet and funny tale of friendship. I found it to be good for talking to my son and daughter about befriending those who might seem different but could end up being a great friend!

Sesame Street: Classics

6. BONUS: Sesame Street Classics

This isn’t a movie, but it IS classic episodes of Sesame Street, which is just as good! Episodes include Bill Cosby and Johnny Cash, among others. Excited to watch these with my kids and relive the memories!
