Pray for your babies even before they arrive! 14 Bible verses  you can pray over your unborn child, for their health, spiritual well-being and more!

When you’re expecting, there’s a LOT to do to get ready for baby’s arrival!

And as a Christian mom, part of preparing ourselves for a new little one is spending time in prayer for our baby’s health and spiritual well-being.

A couple of months ago, I was convicted that I wasn’t spending much time in prayer for our fourth baby specifically.

We included the baby in prayers for our family but I wanted to be more intentional about speaking Scripture over my unborn child!

I spent some time looking through my Bible and using Bible Gateway to find some beautiful passages that speak precious promises and God’s truth over our baby!

I’ll share them with you in a moment, but first, know that you can certainly pray these over all of your children, as we know that the Word of God accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent (Isaiah 55:11-12) and that Scripture prayed over your family has great power.

Here are three quick tips for how you can specifically pray for your unborn child.

3 Tips for Praying Over Your Baby

1) Pray by repeating words of Scripture over your child. For instance, one of the verses I am using is 2 Peter 3:18 – “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

So I might say something like this: “Lord, please help my baby (say their name if you’ve already decided!) to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. Thank you that you have all the glory and honor and that you will give our child the gift of faith to know you forever. Amen.”

2) Praise God for your baby’s life! Thank Him specifically for the blessing of a baby and the work He will do in you through your child’s life.

3) Ask God to help you raise your child with wisdom. James 1:5 tells us that if we ask for wisdom, God will give it to us! I find that it’s so important to continually pray for wisdom as we parent.

I’ve also created a free printable with the fourteen verses I chose in case you would like to print it out and have it nearby when you have prayer time (it’s an 8×10 so you could trim and frame it or put it in a page protector as is).

Further down this post, you’ll also find a link to download some printable prayer cards with these verses!

They are mostly NASB and NKJV with a KJV verse thrown in because I liked the way it was phrased better than the other versions.

You could use these at night before bed and can include your older children in praying these over the baby during devotions, which is what we did! They are wonderful for memorization as well and can easily be used in a two-week cycle.

Below are the verses I chose to pray over your unborn child, feel free to look them up in your favorite version!

  1. Thank you for this encouraging post and scriptures. Married 12 years and together 17 it’s hard to remember God promises when you want a child and the promise has not came. I’m glad to know that his word can never return void and I just need to have faith that what he spoke and have many he will give us. I pray to have our children very soon.

    • I understand, it is really hard to wait on God’s plans! He is faithful, but it is often one day at a time approach to faith. You’ll be in my prayers!

  2. I’ve been married for almost 25 years now and TTC am already 45 now. Indeed it is not easy to wait, especially after a few months into marriage and people start asking you if you’re pregnant, that’s when the pressure
starts…. At about 7months into the marriage i asked my husband to accompany me to the hospital so we can get checked he refused, he said he didn’t want to hear any bad news. He said God has given others He’ll give us too but i was still troubled. I stumbled on the prayers in May last year and i decided to give myself a chance, through the help of a friend i located Doctor Savior after so many talk and frustration i conceived a baby boy successful with no problems it’s was so much a surprise too me and my husband after I use is herbs I got pregnant few week later. God is working and He’ll perfect it for all. WhatsApp contact Savior: +1 513-666-4364 for care service.

  7. What a wonderful idea. I remember my mother talking about how she would pray for a verse for each of us children when she was pregnant with us, and then she would hold onto that verse throughout the pregnancy! Thank you for sharing what you have put together. Blessings, ~Sarah (visiting from Radical Femininity)

  8. Thank you for this list!! I just received my 5 positive tests yesterday (!!!) & will be printing this out today! I think I’ll add a copy to the baby book as well :)

    • Congratulations Heather! How exciting! I hope the Scriptures will be encouraging for you as you wait for your little one.

  9. This is a wonderful list! I just printed it out to add to the list of scriptures I’m praying over Baby #2. With #1, my most frequent prayer was 1 Samuel 2:26, that our baby would “grow in stature and favor with God and with men.”

  10. Prayer is really important over an unborn baby. Love the verses you provided. It’s funny when people ask me if our soon to be baby name will be. I say Adam. They say oh you’ll change you mind. I say no because I asked God what should this babies name be and he said Adam. They often give me an odd look. Praying over a child’s name is just as important also.

  11. Visiting from My Joy-Filled Life link-up. :)

I love your list. While I was pregnant, here are some of the other verses I prayed over both Baby and myself!

    Ps. 115:14-15
Isaiah 65:23 (This one was a big deal for us, since we were praying for a pain-free childbirth!)

    Great post!
