Have faith in the promises of God with these new year Bible verses for new year’s resolutions!

The new year always brings a mix of excitement and dread for me. I feel like I need to be ready with all my resolutions RIGHT NOW when Christmas has barely passed me by!

I have hardly finished singing Joy to the World when my email inbox is packed full of ideas for new year’s resolutions, decluttering challenges, and weight loss tips. It just about makes me crazy!

Maybe you feel this way too! A new year brings new beginnings. We know it’s important to have an opportunity to reboot, but it’s hard to make it happen all at once.

What does the Bible say about the new year?

The best way to learn the answer to that question is to get into God’s Word! Before we make our yearly goals, let’s reflect on some of God’s scriptural promises for us in the new year to keep us from feeling overwhelmed with all the changes we “should” be making on January 1.

Because no matter what kind of resolution we make, no matter how prepared or unprepared we are to purge our toy rooms, eat better, or be a better mom, God’s promises still are the same throughout the years.

35 Bible Verses about God’s Promise for a New Year

1) Isaiah 43:18-19

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

God promises that we can move on from the past.

2) Psalm 90:12

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

God promises us wisdom when we remember that how we spend each day is important.

One of the promises of God for the new year is to show us the truth in His Word and lead us in our faith journey.

6) Psalm 65:4-11

Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple! By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas; the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might; who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples, so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs. You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy. You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.

7) James 1:17

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

God promises blessing and abundance. That doesn’t always happen in the form of money. Abundance is knowing God and trusting in His strength and provision, no matter what the circumstance.

But speaking truth in love, may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, even Christ; from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplieth, according to the working in due measure of each several part, maketh the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind…

15) 1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Often, we make New Year resolutions that have something to do with personal development. God promises to help us grow in discernment, strengthen our character, and make us more fruitful as Christians.

BONUS: Philippians 3:13-15

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

When you’re trying to break bad habits, it can feel difficult to win that battle day after day! Know that God is with you and can help you put aside your “former way of life” and do a good work in you for His glory.

As Christians, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. The upcoming year will likely bring both wonderful days and hard times.

Even if we can’t see what the future will bring, there is reassurance that God knows everything we will face in the next year.

God’s plans are perfect and true.

I hope these verses help you in making your Christian new year’s resolutions!
